After a lifetime of building, restoring and sailing boats, both in England and California, Harvey ultimately built the forty five foot cutter 'Direction' and sailed her with his wife and two kids from San Francisco to the east coast of England, and back again.

His first book is about the voyages from San Francisco as far as the Caribbean, and includes insights into long-term cruising under sail while living a family life. Preparing meals, eating, sleeping, relaxing, and working on home schooling, while dealing with the constant motion of being underway, or with life at anchor in ports and bays along the way.

There is a lot of first hand information about pre satellite navigation, short-handed watch keeping, seamanship and practical gear.

Two more books are underway to ultimately form a trilogy.
